Flinty, stony and intense, it has aromas of petrichor, green tea and thatch, pear and citrus fruit, lots of racy acidity and a mouth-watering, granite-influenced finish. 2024-2993 pts Vinous Sept 2024 The 2023 Chenin Blanc comes from two blocks planted in 1974 and 1976, pressed with whole bunches with no settling of the juice and racked straight after. It fermented in foudres and clay amphorae. This reminds me of a white Bordeaux on the nose, with hints of chai filtering through the citrus fruit. The palate is very well balanced with tangy orange pith, apricot and hints of vanilla. Seductively textured, suggestions of caramelized pear develop toward the long finish. This is a superb follow-up to the 202291 pts Decanter Nov 2024 Great verve, energy but also moreish creaminess in this organic Chenin made with fruit grown in the Polkadraai Hills. Ripe sweet pear, melon, yellow apple and cooked quince, lined with beeswax and sprinkled with candied lemon zest. Pleasant woolly weight and an elegant touch of linden.
